Hello from Jingles (Glen H.)
The cattle drive is going real well. We have completed our 3rd week stretch we took 450 head of longhorns across the Cimmarron River on Wednesday and it was an awesome sight. We had a few riders get in the river but everything went real well. They came to the banks with wet boots, clothes, and a wet saddle seat. I think I rode 6 different horses in two weeks. Everybody is getting to be pretty good friends.. There are some real long days in the saddle. We mount up at 7:30 and get off at 4:30. All day riding in whatever weather. Slept in rain in my bedroll and rode in the rain in slickers. ALL is FUN on horseback behind 450 longhorns.
A Cattle Drive is a lot more work than you would imagine. It is not like rounding up cattle in a pasture because we do that every morning just to get started trailing the cattle to the next camp. So we can eat biscuits, potatoes meat, eggs cobblers made in every way. What a way to spend some time off on the old Chisholm trail with friends, horses, and cattle.
Happy Trails,
Jingles
